NÍDIA
Psychedelic, pioneering, confident, multicolor, merciless, 'Nidia é Má, Nídia é Fudida' (the title of her 2018 release which loosely translates to something like “Nídia is Nasty, Nídia is Badass”). An electronic music producer completely out of left field and towering above almost everyone else these days, she was born in the infamous Lisbon South Bay and in her late teens moved to Bordeaux, France. She's already graced the pages of some of the world's most important publications, which have bowed before her power, but the music itself is what lasts – and what a wonder it is.
Her time in France provided for a more intimate contact with zouk or decalé, which, coupled her familiarity with batida, kuduro, tarraxo and the other expressions of the Great Black Lisbon idioms of her upbringing and her curious and playful imagination gave rise to a very unique path – a distilled sum of pop music and several communitarian dance languages – which sounds fresh and simultaneously deeply personal and universal.
